They have children early there. There isn't any real way to know. Call a really big US law firm if you need an attorney and get a recommendation. Don't just call a Brazilian Attorney there.

Circumstantially, find out what area of what town she is from, and go to facebook or wherever you can socialize with Brazilians and start asking what the people in that area are like. You can get a feel.

You have 14 days of a valid visa from when you land. Immediately go to the Bahemian foreign affairs office with proof of some money and you can stay much longer. It is really easy, just do it soon because they are not always open. The office is near the pink government house in town not far from the center of town where all the shops are. This will make sense when you are there.

No no no. Do not go to Salvador. It's dirty and dangerous. What is that person thinking? Go there is getting mugged is your idea of fun. Forget Recife too. Just take those off your list. By the way, the Pantanal IS part of the Amazon. Oswaldo is giving real advice. Listen to him (except for Salvador). Look, Here is what's real. Land in Rio. Spend 2-6 weeks there and stay in a hostel or find a Brazilian friend that can negociate a cheap apartment for you. The cost should be 400 for a month US in Rio. Don't get taken and pay more unless you can't find someone local to negociate, and be aware that the one negociating could be trying to get a cut from the renter and raising the price. While in that area, take a bus to Ilha Grande ("The big Island" - 2 hours away) for a week or two and tent there safely and cheap. When you are ready for a new experience, take a cheap plane ride (not bus-too dangerous) to bonito if you want the jungle experience, but get your hepatitis and yellow fever shots first (While you are in the USA - 3 months before you go). If not, fly instead to Florianopolis and you are positioned to go to Argentina. Give my wife 100 bucks and she will make arrangements for you and negociate price. She is a native and smart.
