One of the BEST and most EFFICIENT methods is to use Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac. This will work for Mac from the G3 to the 64-bit G5 Mac processor.
BUT......it is pricey.....$300 IF you have your own Licensed copy of Microsoft Windows...
OR........you can get Q emulator for FREE and use it....

Nobody with any savvy who uses a Mac today uses the AOL software. It is archaic, faulty, resource hungry, hasn't been updated in ages and is no longer supported by AOL.
One with a Mac is better off selecting a browser they like and then just using the Internet based AOL at (www.aol.com)

You may want to Sign Out of AOL-go to the Toolbar-Mail-Mail Settings-Manage Mail-Compact.
Then Exit AOL and then reopen and Sign On and see how things look.

I find it to be a pitifully narrow-minded action on the part of AOL to close the only REAL community they have left and then 'farm' it out to some haphazardly designed and formatted 'post-it' board. AOL has made some real stupid errors in their business moves and this is just another of those short-sighted moves.

I assume that you mean the AOL software and not computer, and I don't know why you are being prompted for a 'trial period' and I also don't know why you would be paying for AOL unless you NEED the dial-up option.

If these are 'pixelated' horizontal lines, then you may have a bad graphics chip. You may also have a bad LED screen. You may have a bad connection between the logic board (motherboard) and the screen. This would be able to be found by bypassing the laptop screen and having an external monitor plugged in to see if it also had the horizontal lines.
If it is a bad graphics chip, then the entire logic board (CPU, Sound chip, Graphics chip, fan, etc.) must be replaced. It is best to have it tested for the source of the lines and then an ESTIMATE for repair. If too costly, then a new laptop would be a better choice and have your data transferred.

That would depend on whether you are able to create a (CSV) file or a (Tab-Delimited text - TXT) file or an (LDIF) file.
Those are the three (3) file formats that are able to be IMPORTED into the AOL software.

Usually your typing may stutter or be delayed if you have a full cache or memory overload or if you have multiple applications/programs running or if your anti virus is too resource-hungry or if you have not updated to the most recent versions of Java, Flash Player and Shockwave or if you have too many unnecessary programs running at Start Up.
Restarting the computer is a good place to start. Allowing it to remain powered (unplugged) down for about 5 minutes with the modem/router unplugged is a bit better.
Running a program such as CCleaner before the power shut down is good.
Looking at the 'Task Manager' while the event is happening and looking to see what is eating the resources of CPU and Memory is a way to identify the source.

Using the ("http--www.aol) would imply that you are referring to the Internet based AOL and there is nothing to Uninstall/Remove as there was nothing installed in the first place.
If you are referring to AOL software, then you are able to Remove it through the Control Panel-Remove/Uninstall AOL software.

The best way to save an email is to have another email account such as (Gmail) and have Gmail pick up a copy of all your AOL emails and then they will also be saved/stored in that mailbox.

Unlike a Windows pc, there is no (*pfc) file with the AOL Desktop for Mac software. That software is archaic and is not supported by AOL anymore. Most all people with Mac use either Firefox, Safari or Camino as their browser and then access AOL through the Internet based AOL at (www.aol.com).
The3 Address Book and Favorite Places SHOULD be saved on the AOL servers along with the Buddy Lists, UNLESS one designated to have their Favorites saved ONLY on their computer.....as one might do with 'Saved Email.'

You are going to have expound on what is happening and from what to what.
If you have a Windows computer and a Mac computer and they are in the 'Share' mode and the Windows computer is infecting the Mac, then you need better protection on the Windows side and you should STOP 'sharing' until you get it resolved. For total protection across the platforms you should look at something like Bitdefender Sphere (http://www.bitdefender.com/solutions/sphere.html).

Dump the AOL for Mac software, it is old, archaic in design and not supported by AOL anymore. Go the Internet based AOL (www.aol.com) and Sign In as usual with your screen name and password. You may use whatever browser you like; Firefox, Camino, Safari, Opera, etc.

AOL Desktop for Mac is archaic and not supported by AOL anymore. Most all people using a Mac now just use Firefox or Camino and then go to the Internet based AOL for their email access, etc. I would recommend that you throw that in the trash.

Do you have a scroll wheel mouse? If so, try holding down the (Ctrl - Control) key and then scrolling the wheel back and forth.
You may have inadvertently mixed the (Cmd - Command) key and the (+) or (-) keys. Try holding down the (Cmd - Command) key and then tapping the (+) to increase the size of the page.
If you use Firefox, you may go to the (Toolbar-View-Zoom-Zoom Text Only).
You may also go to the (Toolbar-Firefox-Preferences-Content tab-Fonts & Colors-then you are able to select the style Font and the Size font and click on the 'OK).

You would have to add the AOL Toolbar to your software and then you would have access to the Favorite Places that you have saved ON AOL. If you have Favorite Places that you have saved 'On My Computer' these would NOT available. AOL Desktop would allow for Favorite Places access, but then again, it is old, archaic and not supported software.
Most all Mac users have turned to Firefox or Camino and then transferred their Favorite Places and simply use the Internet based AOL for email, etc. and the browser Toolbar for their Favorite Places.

The only real 'streamlined' version of AOL that will not 'burn resources' is to use the Internet based AOL and not install ANY AOL software on the computer. There is much the same content, you are able to access, read, send email.
The current AOL software that is 'designed' for a Mac is LONG out-of-date and is not really supported by AOL anymore.

You will want to insert the flash drive into a USB port on your Mac. Then go to (Applications-Utilities-Disk Utility).
Select the flash drive (USB Flash) and then click on the (Erase) tab at the top of the Disk Utility window. You should now see a screen with naming and formatting options. Name your USB flash drive (optional) and then select (Mac X Extended Journaled) as the volume format if you ONLY be using this USB flash ON a Mac!!
Otherwise, (MS-DOS / FAT32) will be able to be read by BOTH Mac and Windows BUT will recognize ONLY 4GB.
(exFAT) will be able to be seen and used by BOTH Windows and Mac and supports files larger than 4GB. Although, (exFAT) is NOT supported by older systems like PRIOR to Mac OS X 10.6 or older than Windows XP SP2.

Under (Settings-Invitations & Notifications) you will see a (Deactivate Account) in RED at the bottom-left of the page. Click on that.
