Quite a few injuries occur in training and motorcycle accidents. The Marine Corps now requires marines to go through a safety course before motocycles are allowed on base.

As far as combat best estimates are about a thousand men and women have lost limbs in Afganistan and Iraq.Vietnam had about 6 thousand. World War Two about 15 thousand and Korea 2 thousand.

Those are estimates because the services dont really keep those kinds of records. the real figures will not be known until its aall said and done and someone decides to do a doctoral dance around the facts.

<foaf:maker><foaf:Person><foaf:name>Rod</foaf:name><yedda:age>63</yedda:age><foaf:homepage rdf:resource="http://aolanswers.com/people/518814523777063?src=rss:qbp:ap" /><foaf:img rdf:resource="http://s1.anscdn.net/images/m9_defaultusericon_rmtaac1f83.jpg" /></foaf:Person></foaf:maker><yedda:post><yedda:type>answer</yedda:type><yedda:rating>3.0</yedda:rating></yedda:post>

RE: My Uncle served 20 yrs in the service. A lot of military retirees dont take this option. you should ask your aunt if they infact recived monthly pay. i would think that she would know that.

The Va is seperate and not a part of the department of defense. The VA is for health care but does provide monthly money for men or women who have service connected disabilitys. theses payments do not continue after the veterans death but if the veterans was 100% disabled the widow may recives about 1200 dollars a month for the rest of her life.

<foaf:maker><foaf:Person><foaf:name>Rod</foaf:name><yedda:age>63</yedda:age><foaf:homepage rdf:resource="http://aolanswers.com/people/518814523777063?src=rss:qbp:ap" /><foaf:img rdf:resource="http://s1.anscdn.net/images/m9_defaultusericon_rmtaac1f83.jpg" /></foaf:Person></foaf:maker><yedda:post><yedda:type>answer</yedda:type><yedda:thread previous="http://aolanswers.com/questions/soldiers-paraplegic-quadriplegic_518018833208876/total-amputees-years-war-middle_518013733127462" /><yedda:rating>3.0</yedda:rating></yedda:post>

RE: V A.gov Iam looking for my grandfathers enlistment, where , when, His name william leroy redner. where do I get these, HELP by Rod

Records are in St louis.

Its obvious that she doesnt understand how our society works much less the mental health system, the Va, federal and state goverment.

The VA or the Federal goverment does not mandate that someone get mental health treatment. If the man is a danger to you or yourself call 911 and have him removed from your home for your good and his.

The fact that you have reported the situation to the VA and they have not done anything has nothing to do with lack of resources, under staffing or low wages. It is simply not the federal goverments job to take care of the community.

Consulting a lawyer to have your son committed is not a good idea because it will cost you a small fortune and ultimately it will be you anyway who has to do the painful duty of removing him from your home. The VA does not come and pick people up. It's between you and your son and the local authorities become involved if they witness danger or you want him out of your house and he refuses. Those are the only triggers for action unless of course he decides to go to the VA on his own.

He has civil rights so if he says he doesnt want treatment unless he is violent the police will not arrest him unless you insist that you don't want him there and he refuses to leave. At that point he will be escorted off your property and if he insists on coming back he will probably be arrested. Then someone at the station house will recommend evaluation. It is not true that a local hospital will not treat him because he is a veteran. Patients who are enrolled in the VA healthcare system are treated at the county not for profit hospital all the time.

Based on the information that you have given your option is let him stay or make him go. Good luck.

<foaf:maker><foaf:Person><foaf:name>Rod</foaf:name><yedda:age>63</yedda:age><foaf:homepage rdf:resource="http://aolanswers.com/people/518814523777063?src=rss:qbp:ap" /><foaf:img rdf:resource="http://s1.anscdn.net/images/m9_defaultusericon_rmtaac1f83.jpg" /></foaf:Person></foaf:maker><yedda:post><yedda:type>comment</yedda:type><yedda:thread previous="http://aolanswers.com/questions/combat_boots_tactical_military_army_627231931384703/495575237806110" /><yedda:rating>3.0</yedda:rating></yedda:post>

What happened to Charlie Scott who was on Houston television in the late seventies to mid eighties.
However since most have very few years to count toward retirement the money is not very much.

I lost both legs and have other problems and i receive 11 dollars from the department of defense. I was only in 1 year ,one month and 20 days. Of course my VA money is much more. Until just recently it was not possible to receive both retirement pay and VA compensation.
