SO SORRY. 2nd year college student on the brink of abyss

LONG STORY. SO SORRY.

2nd year college student depressed.

Hi, quick back-story, as senior year in high school was ending I began getting really sad because I was the only one - of any of my close friends, friends, or even people I wouldn't hang out with much at all but still talked to - that was going to that university. Plus, that university was at the far opposite side of (same) state but in a COMPLETELY different environment than I was used to living in all my life.

Anyways, Fall 2010 when I moved in to the dorms as a Freshman, I was extremely homesick and sad/anxious about not having any of my friends back home. The first few days I pretty much holed up in our room and just vchatted/talked to all my friends from home and etc. However, by the end of the first few weeks I became really good friends with my roommate and pretty good friends w/ another guy that lived by us. We went out daily and hung out with various people through acquaintances and etc. But still, the mix of my negative emotions and issues led me to not meet/get close to anywhere near the number of people I could have. Didn't really matter at that point to me though because at the end of by like the first or second month, my group of 'my boys' was 5 people.

After this initial willpower push of mines to interact, things went personally downhill. I started feeling more and more avoidant of people and finding myself in bed at nights crying silently in bed about being really homesick (and to a much lesser extent about the new environment/friends from home). Also, 1 being a commuter and the other an upperclassmen living multiple streets away from the dorm complex, as the year progressed we would go out as all 5 of us less and less frequently.

As the year progressed, and people were forming closer and closer bonds, I became less and less socially open to meeting people. By the end of freshman year last year, I was at a point where I slept all day - and consequently skipped all my non-mandatory-attendance classes too - (but was able to do well in them since they were intro courses) - I would wake up 5-8 pm on some days. But because my roommate lived in the same room and our close friend lived right next door down a short hallway however, it never felt like an effort to hang out with them and what not.

At some point towards the end of the year, my roommate had a falling out w/ our close friend (that lived right by us) for w.e. trivial etc reasons. Plus that close friend became a RA who got assigned at the opposite end of campus.

Summer leading up to Fall 2011 this school year, I made a resolution to myself to turn over a new leaf and legitimately put myeslf out there.
Within the first few weeks, it became shockingly apparent that meeting people/etc in dorm complexes was infinitely easier than trying to meet people when living in an apartment complex.

This year, I have only made new acquaintances but essentially no more real legit friends/close friends.

I find myself REALLY depressed and sad now. When freshman year ended last year, I did not feel too bad since I told myself I would just maximize opportunity this year. But now, I find myself regretting last year so much. Even though I severely didnt maximize opportunities last year, relative to this year I had infinitely more fun.

I miss it so much, especially since this year has been so abyssmal compared to it. On top of missed opportunities, I miss all the fun aspects like all the pranks, especially the epic ones that our close friend was victim of. I miss being able to hang out and mess around with friends by barely having to walk out a door. I miss having not taken advantage of wlaking door to door and meeting tons of open, receptive people. The dining hall was downstairs with all food prepared, dishses washed, drinks and the whole shebang. There were amenities like study rooms in the complex, pool, pool tables/games/tv/etc in common rooms where you could hang out. the complex was microcosm of the school, but was in itself this amazing fully-self sustaining universe of convenience.

Now sophomore year is ending in a month and I feel lonely/depressed/sad/etc to profound, almost unbearable levels.
I don't know what to do anymore. It's becoming insanely hard to get myself to go to class/give academics my all when I just keep thinking about what is, and what could have been. I began last year on the deans honor roll and planned to possibly transfer. but the isolation progressed and now my gpa has dipped a little below 3.0.

I am confident in my intelligence, and am sure if I went to class I would still be on the honor roll. Over this past summer between freshman and sophomore year, I went to class everyday (at a different campus closer to home), met a bunch of people (some that I became good friends with) and even though 2 of the 4 classes (the other 2 were intro courses which had a lot of opportunity for social interaction) I took were top tier upper class courses my grades ranged between A+ at best and A- at worst.

I know I am capable of accomplishing what I want to but mentally, I am having extreme difficulty. Since I was at a new campus over the summer, I was able to go in with the mindset that it was a fresh start and in turn was extremely bold and able to push myself out of my comfort zone.

I realize college is only a microcosm of my life and that I need to get my shit together now or else I won't be able to acomplish my goals, but I am finding it insanely difficult. Of the few legit friends left, I share a major with none of them. I feel like such a fuck-up and pariah walking through campus seeing various groups of people huddled together. This is a large reason I have been skipping classes.

The only way I can think of that would allow for anywhere near the convenience/fun of freshman dorms would be living in a frat house. I will be a junior next year and am quite uninspired by the thought of being at a disadvantage of rushing as a junior w/o connection.

Furthermore, since I will be an upper classmen my courses will require even more work and it seems like it would be academic suicide to join a social frat. Plus, my gpa dip probably severely hurts my chances at getting into the frats relevant to my major.

I just feel like everything is really futile at this point, words can not express how much regret I have. I have tried to tell myself that it is all in the past and that I should just learn from my mistakes andmove on, but i am finding it damn near impossible.

Please give me advice.
