Take the Challenge!
Oakland-based Victory Garden Foundation Encourages Gardeners to Become Part of the Victory! Join the 350 Victory Garden Challenge Event~
April 14, 2011 (Oakland, CA) - On a single weekend, May 14th and 15th, 2011, gardeners from around the country will rise to the challenge to transform 350 landscapes into bountiful Victory Gardens with a focus on sustainability while at the same time supporting local businesses and economy. Building upon the success of over 100 garden actions in the East Bay during the 2010 Victory Garden Challenge event, the Victory Garden Foundation is now committed more than ever to inspire 350 garden actions for the May 14th and 15th, 2011 event.
The 350 Victory Garden Challenge was inspired in part by the 350.org international campaign as well as the encouragement received from iGrow Sonoma last year to participate. The Victory Garden Foundation took the Challenge offered by iGrow Sonoma and launched their own efforts to challenge others to “eat our way to Sonoma” by growing food at home.
Why 350? Top climate scientists say this is the safe upper limit of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to keep a stable climate. Today, we're at 391.06 parts per million CO2. It is clear we have work to do to gain our Victory. Together our actions and alliances add up and create real solutions to the climate crisis.
During the 350 Victory Garden Challenge weekend there are many actions people can take including: transforming their lawn into a food garden. Join or start a community garden; grow a row for a local food bank, or, get educated! Attend a gardening workshop or teach others. There are limitless possibilities to take action during the event and VGF encourages people to get creative and reach outside the box!

Whether you register your own project or volunteer on a community project, we need you. The Victory Garden Foundation will provide education, ideas, discounts, and incentives to inspire and support your efforts!
This is the economy of sheer desperation, made necessary by our irresponsible Democrats.

I have a friend in the Agriculture Program who has been recruiting virtually anyone with a farm tractor and virtualy anyone with vacant land, to plant community gardens.

People are now lining up around food banks and sometimes around the block just to apply for benefits. These are not lazy people or those who perennially seek handouts. These are people who have been unemployed or severely underemployed for the last two to three years, have exhausted their unemployment benefits, and will do literally anything as a job, no matter how menial the task.

They who received from the food bank are the first to raise their hands to volunteer to work there, with every resource they can apply. The need has never been greater than now, and the dismal outlook will only make that need far worse as time drags painfully by.

It will take twenty years to correct the cold and ruthless abuses, negligence, and betrayals, of the Obama years. I only hope that we are strong enough to do so.

<foaf:maker><foaf:Person><foaf:name>Bill Compton</foaf:name><yedda:age>83</yedda:age><foaf:homepage rdf:resource="http://aolanswers.com/people/504144173623094?src=rss:qb:ap" /><foaf:img rdf:resource="http://s1.anscdn.net/resources/00000039922/8cef78017446c68.jpg" /></foaf:Person></foaf:maker><yedda:post><yedda:type>answer</yedda:type><yedda:thread previous="http://aolanswers.com/questions/home_garden_victory_gardens_504115083425729/press_releases_victory_garden_951675301032389" /><yedda:rating>3.0</yedda:rating></yedda:post>
